Have you ever bought your significant other their favorite flowers only to find out they would’ve preferred a romantic picnic at the park? Or bought your favorite dessert when you wish you would’ve scheduled a manicure for yourself instead? Doing something kind for someone you care about–including yourself–can be meaningful, but it’s important to understand that how you say or show someone you love them may differ from what they (or you!) had in mind.

This article and adorable infographics were generously shared with us by Alexandria with FTD. The full original article can be found HERE. Thanks Alexandria!
In order to appeal to a loved one’s, or your own love language, FTD has put together a helpful guide on the five love languages and 25+ love language ideas you can try. The Five Love Languages was written by Dr. Gary Chapman. He proposed  that our love language is a how each of us prefers to be shown love and affection. He states that most people give or show love the way they wish to receive it, instead of how their partner wishes to receive it. This is why so many of us complain that our significant other doesn’t show affection or love—they’re miscommunicating it!

What are the Five Love Languages?

The five love languages are different ways people receive and communicate their love to others. The different languages are:

  1. Acts of Service
  2. Words of Affirmation
  3. Physical Touch
  4. Receiving Gifts
  5. Quality Time

Every person has a primary love language and a secondary language they wish for others to speak to them.

Though it is usually directed at romantic relationships, knowing someone’s love language can help you foster a loving relationship with other people in your life beyond your significant other, such as close friends, parents, or kids.

To learn both your own love language as well as others, take Dr. Chapman’s quiz, then use your results to determine which ideas to refer to next time you want to show someone you care.
