If you’ve ever felt like your life is spinning out of control, it can create a sense of unrest and cause us to be very reactive rather than proactive– meaning we’re likely to run around like headless chickens. There are steps you can take and routines you can implement to take back the reins and regain control of your life. Think of it as chunking things down into simple steps within several key areas.

Today we’ll talk about how to implement those changes and routines in the following areas:

HOME

It’s been said that if we live in a cluttered environment it’s a sign of a cluttered mind, so if you are feeling your life is a little out of control, then it makes sense that your home environment might be similarly cluttered. The practical benefits of cleaning, tidying up, and organizing your home have been well publicized in the popular concept of hygge, which advocates the positive effects that cleaning your home environment can have on your mental and emotional state.

The logic is simple. When you live in chaos, your life will feel more chaotic. Similarly, when we feel chaotic, we often manifest those internal feelings externally. A great starting point in your efforts to feel more calm and organized, is going through your clothes and documents, putting things into order, throwing out what is no longer needed, and cleaning your home so that it feels fresh and ordered.

HEALTH

Sometimes, the fear of the unknown causes a unnerving state of vulnerability–for instance, if there’s a lump that just doesn’t feel right, it can be tempting to put off a visit to the doctor’s office. Sometimes ignorance is more comforting than awareness.  Unfortunately, these worries will niggle away at your energy and sense of certainty. It’s better to be seen sooner rather than later and address your health concerns.

Furthermore, keep in mind that early detection and treatment can be the difference between a full life and an early death–take cancer for instance, which often requires radiation treatment. There are many advanced forms of radiation therapy that can be very successful if the cancer is detected at an early stage. Early detection is key, so stop putting off any health concerns, and nip them in the bud as early as possible.

FINANCES

If life feels out of control, there’s a strong possibility your finances are one of the strands causing it. With regard to your finances, often, it’s a case of feeling things are in order. Getting a handle on the situation so the world stops feeling as if it’s falling out from under you. Debt can be a slippery slope, as there are so many charges that accrue it can be very challenging to keep your head above water.

Therefore, a helpful suggestion on this front, is to work out where things are by getting a few plastic envelopes and putting all correspondence relating to each creditor into a file. You can then come up with a plan of action to address each one.  Negotiate an affordable payment plan, and keep up with payments, in order to feel more in control.

If you feel like your life is heading out of control, there are steps you can take to alleviate those feelings. Most importantly, remember that it’s always best to address the situation rather than avoiding or running away from it.
