Blueberries can give you a ton of health benefits, and some of those are great for your brain as well. Blueberries, and any other deeply coloured fruit for that matter contain anthocyanins. This is a plant compound that has anti-inflammatory and even antioxidant effects. They are great at fighting oxidative stress and they are also great at preventing brain ageing and neurodegenerative diseases. Animal studies have even shown that blueberries can help delay short-term memory loss as well. If you want to include them in your diet then consider sprinkling them on your breakfast or even adding them to a smoothie.

Turmeric is a deep yellow spice. It is a key ingredient in curry powder and it also comes with a ton of health benefits. Curcumin can be found in turmeric and it has the remarkable ability to enter the brain directly. This means that it can benefit the cells there with ease and it can even improve your memory as well. Amyloid plaques are often seen in those who suffer from Alzheimer’s and even dementia as well, and the best thing about Curcumin is that it can help to clear them so that the progression is much slower. As if that wasn’t enough, it can also boost serotonin which will really lift your mood.

Turmeric can also help new brain cells to grow and this is because it boosts the neurotrophic factor. If you want to try and utilise turmeric then you need to try and cook with it as much as possible. Stuck for ideas? Consider adding it to any potato dishes that you have, make turmeric tea or even add it to rice when the water is boiling. It is a fantastic spice for you to incorporate into your cooking, and the woody flavour ultimately means that it is never too strong when used in small amounts.

Broccoli is packed full of plant components. This includes antioxidants as well. On top of this, it is full of Vitamin K and one cup will deliver 100% of your RDA. This vitamin is fat-soluble and it is also essential for your brain to form sphingolipids. This is a type of fat that is super densely packed into your brain cells. There have been a few studies in older adults that have linked Vitamin K intake to memory improvement. Broccoli also contains a number of compounds that help to give it the anti-inflammatory and even anti-oxidant effect. This can help to protect the brain against any damage as you get older and it can also boost your current levels of concentration.

Green Tea

As mentioned above with coffee, green tea can also really improve your brain function. It can also help you to boost your memory, focus, alertness and concentration. The difference with green tea is that it contains L-Theanine. This is an amino acid that has the remarkable ability to pass across the blood and brain barrier. This then reduces anxiety and it can also make you feel way more relaxed as well. This chemical also helps to boost the amount of alpha waves that you have in your brain. This makes it much easier for you to relax without making you feel tired. Ironically, it can counter the effects of caffeine as well, so you can stay awake without losing the ability to sleep if you need to. Green tea is a fantastic way for you to improve your memory and it is also great for your health in general.
