The foods you eat play a crucial role in keeping your brain healthy. On top of this, it can also help improve your mental state–your concentration and your memory. If you’d like to increase your concentration and memory skills, incorporate more of the foods listed below.

Fatty Fish

When you hear the word “brain food” chances are fatty fish is on the list. The type of fish that you need to be including in your diet includes salmon, trout, sardines and more. These are all incredibly rich in fatty acids, and when you think about the fact that 60% of your brain is made up of fat, you will soon see that this can have a huge impact on your mental health. Your brain will use the omega-3 that is in fish to try and build your brain and nerve cells. It is these cells that are essential for memory and learning, not to mention that it can also help you to slow down any age-related decline. Coffee is actually good for you. This is great news if the highlight of your morning is reaching for that hot cup of java. It’s important to know that there are two main components in coffee, and this includes caffeine and antioxidants. Both of them can really help your brain. The caffeine helps you to stay alert and it does this by blocking adenosine. This is a chemical messenger that makes you tired at night. Caffeine can also boost your feel-good neurotransmitters, which includes serotonin. you’ll also be glad to know that caffeine can also reduce the risk of developing any neurological diseases, including Parkinson’s. Of course, the fact that caffeine boosts concentration is more than enough reason for you to include it in your diet, and it can have a huge impact on your mood as well.

If you want to try and utilise turmeric then you need to try and cook with it as much as possible. Stuck for ideas? This vitamin is fat-soluble and it is also essential for your brain to form sphingolipids. This is a type of fat that is super densely packed into your brain cells. There have been a few studies in older adults that have linked Vitamin K intake to memory improvement. Broccoli also contains a number of compounds that help to give it the anti-inflammatory and even anti-oxidant effect. This can help to protect the brain against any damage as you get older and it can also boost your current levels of concentration.

Green Tea

As mentioned above with coffee, green tea can also really improve your brain function. It can also help you to boost your memory, focus, alertness and concentration. The difference with green tea is that it contains L-Theanine. This is an amino acid that has the remarkable ability to pass across the blood and brain barrier. This then reduces anxiety and it can also make you feel way more relaxed as well. This chemical also helps to boost the amount of alpha waves that you have in your brain. This makes it much easier for you to relax without making you feel tired. Ironically, it can counter the effects of caffeine as well, so you can stay awake without losing the ability to sleep if you need to. Green tea is a fantastic way for you to improve your memory and it is also great for your health in general.
