I used to do morning pages for years. I wanted to be a writer when I was young -in my 20’s and 30’s raising my young children. I wrote voraciously. I got my first journal when I was 10 and have boxes and boxes of composition notebooks. Then someone read my journals – actually 2 – and it killed my desire to journal as well as do morning pages. Then tragedy struck. My 14 year old daughter was brutally murdered. It changed my life forever. That was 101/2 years ago. I have written very little. When I do write, it’s excruciatingly dark. I write about wanting to not be alive and pain, so much pain.
I don’t want to do that anymore. I also now have ptsd and debilitating anxiety and depression.
I’m going to try morning pages again. I actually want to start a blog myself. I think you’re amazing for making this blog. I relate to almost every single thing you write about, as do my other 2 now adult children. I’m going to show them your blog and hope they can find something to help them as well.

Thank your for being an inspiration to me and I’m sure countless others!!!!!

Hi Laura. Thank you so much for sharing your experiences with me. I truly cannot imagine the pain you’ve lived through. I hope you know how strong you are. It makes sense that you lost your desire to journal. Not only did you lose the trust required to really write freely, but your tragic loss of your daughter . . . my heart breaks for you. But, again, I have to remind you of how much strength it must have taken you to get to this point.

Writing for me–especially when I share my thoughts through the blog–has been incredibly cathartic. Initially, I never viewed the blog as something that would benefit me. I started it because I know there are so many people who suffer alone, and I wanted to do my part to let them know it’s okay to hurt … and maybe provide them with a little hope. But the benefit for me has been amazing.

I understand the darkness that sometimes comes out in your writing. You’ve had a lot of pain in your life, and I think it’s okay to write about that. It can be healing. This may or may not work for you.. I’ve tried it myself and it works. (most of the time) Before you stop writing about those negative thoughts… shift gears and write down a few things you’re grateful for. Just a short list. Try to remind yourself of the good things that have kept you going to shift your mindset back into a more positive place. I’m sure the top two items on that list will be your two children. ?

Your kind words mean the world to me. I appreciate you more than I can say!
      Please stay in touch, Ali
